Mauricio Cortes

Mauricio Cortes, Ph.D., is Senior Director and Head of Discovery Science at Cellarity, a clinical-stage biotechnology company developing Cell State-Correcting therapies through integrated multi-omics and AI modelling. At Cellarity, Dr Cortes drives the integration of single cell biology, machine learning, and high dimensional data. As an early member of the Cellarity team, he has shaped Cellarity’ novel approach including seminal work leveraging omics level data to drive drug discovery resulting in the identification of a novel mechanism to induce fetal hemoglobin to treat sickle cell disease. Previously, he worked at CRISPR Therapeutics where he made key contributions to the first approved CRISPR medicine to treat sickle cell disease. He completed his postdoctoral work at Harvard Medical School studying hematopoiesis, and earned a PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of Chicago.
